DIY Popcorn Backdrop!
Awesome backdrop, only spent $7 to create this incredible look. It was such a great addition to the party, added character and fun! It was a movie themed movie party, and there was a popcorn bar too so this fit right in. Let's get started!
Things you need!
- White Tissue Paper (Dollar Store)
- French vanilla tissue paper (Hobby Lobby)
- Yellow tissue paper (Hobby Lobby)
- Red wrapping paper (Dollar Store)
- White plastic tablecloth (Dollar Store)
- Black poster board (Dollar Store)
- White poster board (Dollar Store)
- Glue sticks (Dollar Store)
- Tape (Dollar Store)
Let's Start With the Popcorn!
You'll need the white, french vanilla and yellow tissue paper for this, along with the tape. I bought this tissue paper at Hobby Lobby for like $1.50 but you can find them at the dollar store as well!
Step 1 - I placed the white tissue paper at the bottom, then placed the french vanilla on top of it, then finally placed the yellow tissue paper over them both. I started with making a dent at the center of the tissue papers, then created a folding. I put tape around the center folding to keep it all in place.
Step 2 - Next, start with the corners and the white tissue paper, just begin to crumble and make a giant circle with the tissue paper. Do this to every tissue paper, folding and crumbling more every time so the white tissue paper is showing most, then french vanilla and the yellow is in the middle. As shown in the picture.
Step 3 - Do this over and over again until you've done as many popcorns as you'd like for your project.
Popcorn Bag!
I used red wrapping paper for the base of the popcorn bag and to create the stripes, I used a white dollar store plastic tablecloth. Then from there, I used the black and white poster boards to make the "pop corn" sign on the bag.
Step 1 - First, you need to figure out how tall you want this bag to be. I did mine about 6ft tall because I knew I wanted it tall enough to still be seen when people stood in front of it. Once you know how tall you want it, I unrolled the red wrapping paper and cut it to the size.
Step 2 - Then you measure and cut off the sides of the bag diagonally so the bag isn't a perfect rectangle. I started from the top corner and measured down. I went about 4 inches from the bottom corner and then connected the two. This gives it more of a inclined look.
Step 3 - I then cut strips from the white table cloth and glued them onto the red wrapping paper. I cut the white table cloth while it was folded when I bought it. This made it easier to get everything the same size.
Step 4 - Now it's the easy part, you use the black and white poster board to get the "pop corn" sign. I first cut a giant white oval for the background, then cut out letters from the black poster board and glued it all together and placed it on the bag.
Put It All Together!
Now is the fun part, putting all of this together!
Step 1 - I then placed a part of the white poster board on top of the popcorn bag, so I can attach the popcorn over it. I taped the top of the bag with the poster board, and made sure it was attached so I can add the popcorn.
Step 2 - Now, you get the popcorn and begin to tape it onto the white poster board. Make sure you cover the entire thing and then it's ready to go.
Have fun creating!
